Genus Aster includes some 600 species of widely distributed flowering plants of
Asteraceae.
Aster comes from Greek word for star, and refers to the flower head shape.
Asters are dainty, daisy-like flowers with yellow centers distributed over airy
sprays.
They come in many colors including white, pink, hot pink, lavender, red, purple
or white.
