Anthurium
Common names: anthurium, tailflower
Anthurium is a large neotropical genus of about 600- 800 or more species, belonging
to the arum family (Araceae).
A tropical flower, anthuriums have strange petal-like bracts, that are red, pink,
white or green.
The blooms are glossy like patent leather.
Usually just below the flower spike lies a colorful, solitary spathe: a showy
modified bract that can be somewhat leathery in texture.
Several species are popular with florists as pot plants or cut flowers, as a cut
flower, anthuriums live two to three weeks. |
Calla
Common names: calla, calla lily.
A calla lily refers to plants of genus Zantedeschia in the family Araceae.
They produce large, showy flower spathes, therefore they are grown both as ornamental
plants in addition to cut flowers.
Callas are large flowers with thick, waxy petals with solitary 6- to 8-inch flower
heads that make excellent cut flowers or blooming plants.
Many hybrids are in cultivation, with spathes in varying shades of white, yellow,
orange, red, or pink.
As a cut flower, vase life is seven to 10 days.
Special care: Water frequently plus cut stem ends every few days to prevent curling. |
