Anthurium
Common names: anthurium, tailflower
Anthurium is a large neotropical genus of about 600- 800 or more species, belonging
to the arum family (Araceae).
A tropical flower, anthuriums have strange petal-like bracts, that are red, pink,
white or green.
The blooms are glossy like patent leather.
Usually just below the flower spike lies a colorful, solitary spathe: a showy
modified bract that can be somewhat leathery in texture.
Several species are popular with florists as pot plants or cut flowers, as a cut flower, anthuriums live two to three weeks. |
Aster
Common names: aster, Monte Casino, rainbow aster, spray aster.
Genus Aster includes some 600 species of widely distributed flowering plants of Asteraceae.
Aster comes from Greek word for star, and refers to the flower head shape.
Asters are dainty, daisy-like flowers with yellow centers distributed over airy
sprays.
They come in many colors including white, pink, hot pink, lavender, red, purple or white.
As a cut flower, vase life is up to 14 days. |
