| About Albuquerque |
Catholic missionaries, not
farmers, first settled in the area that would become Albuquerque, building churches
in several pueblos in the early 1600s.
During this time the Indian population in the Albuquerque area declined, due largely
to the diseases introduced by the settlers.
Their lands along the Rio Grande between the Pueblo of Sandia to the north and
the Pueblo of Isleta to the south became available to the Spanish colonists. |
These days Albuquerque is a
city of contrasts. Nestled between the towering Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande
Valley, the city of Albuquerque is rich with culture and heritage, breathtaking
landscape and equipped with vibrant energy that's indispensable to a fast-growing
city.
Albuquerque has grown from 5,000 residents at the onset of the railroad era in
the 1880s to more than 550,000 in the year 2000, in the metro area alone. |

Thin, branching stems open up to clusters of blooming florets.
Leaves are bright green and pointed. Bouvardia flowers in white, pink, salmon, or red, living one to two weeks.

of colors including white, green, cream, yellow, buff, orange, salmon, pink, red, lavender, purple, blue plus terra cotta. |
