Colorado Springs is the county
seat of, and Colorado Springs was founded in August 1871 by General William Palmer,
with the intention of creating a high quality resort community.
Colorado Springs became especially popular with the British and acquired the nickname
Little London.
During the following twenty years, Colorado Springs became popular as a spa with
well-known celebrities such as Jefferson Davis, Oscar Wilde, and John D. Rockefeller
vacationing here.
A quiet community until 1891, when gold was discovered in Cripple Creek.
In ten years, the population tripled to 35,000.
Today, Colorado Springs is the largest municipality in El Paso County with an
estimated population of 360,000. |
The county contains 2,127 square
miles, much of it rural agricultural and grazing land to the east of Colorado
Springs, however, manufacturers, high-tech and software companies, non profit
organizations, and a multitude of other businesses have flocked to the area.

north; Security, Widefield and Fountain to the south; and Manitou Springs, Cascade

Iris

The common name, shared with its closely related genus Consolida, is Larkspur.
Many species of this flower are cultivated as garden plants, with numerous cultivars
having been selected for their denser, more prominent flowers.
Delphiniums provide some of the best cut flowers with a color range including
blue, lavender, purple, pink, salmon, rose, red, white, also some bi-colored flower types.
Flowers grow along spikes with stems that are 1 to 6 feet long.
Flowers are either single or double, foliage is medium green and leafy.
Vase life ranges from four to 12 days. |
