| About
Fort Wayne IN |
The site that became the city
of Fort Wayne was established when an American fort of the same name was constructed
at the confluence of the St. Mary's, St. Joseph, and Maumee Rivers in 1794.
In 1824, the first tract of land, also known as "the original plat",
was purchased.
The original plat is today the center of downtown, and its purchase marked the
beginning of the city Ft. Wayne. |
The construction of the Wabash
& Erie Canal in the 1830's earned Fort Wayne its nickname "Summit City", because
it was the highest point above sea level along the entire canal route.
Fort Wayne embraces community-based strategies to enhance economic opportunity,
build strong neighborhoods, and ensure a dynamic framework for quality growth
and development. ZIP codes for Fort Wayne IN 46802, 46803, 46804, 46805, 46806,
